May 9 Community Recreation Center Update

The Community Recreation Center Committee is working with EAU, an architecture firm, to learn more about the logistics and costs of a potential stand-alone community center.

The community workshop and the feedback we have received have been to replicate the current fitness facilities and track, include a number of multi-use spaces, add additional gym spaces, and consider a community pool.

EAU is working with the committee on the options available for the look of the building, the square footage, and the cost.  The committee will then narrow down the options to get a clear picture of what is possible for a potential community recreation center.   The plan is to present options for reflection to the community as a whole in another community workshop in September.

We also heard feedback from many people and the committee that they would like us to continue to look for ways to partner with the city to provide needed community resources.   The city and school district have created a small committee of district and city administrators to begin looking into areas of potential partnership in order to help minimize the duplication of services and best meet the needs of our community. This group will dive into details regarding potential options for partnership, specifically about the need for a senior center and future home for the library, and will present any findings to the Community Recreation Center Committee for consideration this summer, which will also be shared with the broader community at a workshop in September.
