May 23 Community Recreation Center Update
The Community Recreation Center Committee, in partnership with architectural firm EUA, explored logistics and costs for a stand-alone community center at its May meeting.
On May 14th, EUA presented refined cost projections for potential community center options. The committee requested more details on recurring costs (like staffing) and middle school pool maintenance expenses. The district will investigate these further for the upcoming September community workshop.
A "puzzle play" activity, facilitated by EUA, helped the committee narrow down potential building layouts to approximately four plans. EUA will develop these further for discussion at the May 28th meeting.
In related news, in response to community feedback, the district and city have begun discussions about a potential shared library or community center space. A small group of district and city administrators will meet weekly to explore this partnership, which was recently featured in the Journal Sentinel (subscription may be required). Their findings will be presented to the committee and the School Board for review.
As previously shared, the committee is working with EUA to develop renderings, floor plans, and tangible price estimates based on feedback from the April 3rd workshop. These refined options and cost projections, along with the city partnership discussion findings, will be presented to the community at the September workshop.
