Registration

Residents must be able to show proof of residency by providing a lease or utility bill with their name and address. Not sure? Check the SM Boundary Map to see where our students live.

To begin the enrollment process:

Step 1: Bring a copy of your lease or utility bill that shows your South Milwaukee address and your name, your identification, as well as your child's birth certificate, to the District Office at 901 15th Avenue, door 7. 

Step 2: Once your documents are verified, you will be given a link to an enrollment portal that, once completed, will result in your child's enrollment at the School District of South Milwaukee. 

The process is the same if you are new to South Milwaukee, have lived here for a while, but your children have attended a private school or are open-enrolled in another district, you can enroll them in the School District of South Milwaukee.

The State of Wisconsin allows students to attend school in communities other than where they live through a process called Open Enrollment. 

Students who do not live in South Milwaukee but who would like to attend school are required to Open Enroll. 

Open Enrollment requires families to first fill out an application with the Wisconsin Department of Instruction.

Families who have completed the Open Enrollment process and have received a letter from the School District of South Milwaukee should bring in their student's birth certificate to 901 15th Ave to initiate the registration process.
