Applications for Free & Reduced Price Meals are included in every registration packet mailed to student homes in August and are available in each school office . Applications can also be accessed and printed via the Nutrition Services Breakfast/Lunch Resources. A new application is required for each new school year. Completed applications should be brought to registration but can also be returned to SDSM Nutrition Services, 901 15th Avenue, South Milwaukee 53172 or dropped off at any SDSM school office. Applications are evaluated based on the National School Lunch Program criteria and families are notified, by mail, of benefit eligibility. Applications returned at registration should be processed by the first day of school. Only one application per family is necessary.
If you receive a NOTICE OF DIRECT CERTIFICATION at the beginning of August 2016, no application is required.
Families may apply for meal benefits at any time during the school year. Familes may also re-apply if denied benefits, but experience a decrease in income or an increase in household size later in the school year.
Parents are responsible for their student's meals until they are notified (by mail) of Free or Reduced Benefits. Please send your student to school with a cold lunch and a drink or money for hot lunch.
The Free & Reduced Benefit includes qualifying Breakfast and Lunch Meals. Please refer to the 2016-2017 Lunch & Breakfast Costs on our Nutrition Services page for the benefit for Lunch and Breakfast at your student's school. See Meal Deal for information on building a qualifying meal at the Middle School & High School. Students must have money in their accounts to be served a la carte items. This includes milk ($.30) for those who choose to bring a cold lunch or choose to not participate in breakfast. High & Middle School students refusing any part of a qualifying meal will be charged a la carte prices for the items they do take.
The cashiers encourage ALL students to participate in the Meal Deal/Qualifying Meals regardless of eligibilty.
