I would like to welcome you back for the start of the 2011-2012 school year. Although I may be new to the role of Principal of South Milwaukee Middle School, I am beginning my 17th year in the School District of South Milwaukee. I began my teaching career at South Milwaukee Middle School, so in a way, I am coming home. During my time in South Milwaukee, I have had the opportunity to serve the staff, students, parents and the community in a variety of roles, most recently as Student Learning and Technology Coordinator. Personally, I am extremely excited for the new school year for a variety of reasons, but most importantly, I look forward to working with the students, staff, and parents to make this year the best educational experience possible for our children.
Throughout the year, we welcome and encourage your involvement, input, and participation in making South Milwaukee Middle School the best educational experience possible for all of our students. The many opportunities available at SMMS are intended to allow every student to grow as an individual as well as academically. One of our major focuses is to make the transition for our students from elementary school to SMMS enjoyable and meaningful, and properly prepare our eighth graders to transition to high school.
In addition to academics, there are many dances, athletic opportunities, clubs, school spirit events, and other school activities to participate in. I strongly encourage all students to participate in extra-curricular opportunities and contribute to the school. This is a special way to make a connection with classmates and teachers and develop a great sense of pride for your school.
I wish everyone a great start to the year!
