ATTENDANCE

Regular and prompt attendance is necessary for student progress and becomes part of the student’s permanent record.  Poor attendance is a major cause for failure and dropping out of school.  Both students and parents/guardians share the responsibility for good attendance.

Detailed information about Attendance Expectations are outlined in the Student Handbook.  Please read through the full policies, so you are aware of the expectations and discipline actions for noncompliance of the policies.

ABSENCES

Students are expected to be in daily attendance at school unless they need to be absent for one of the following reasons:

  1. Personal illness, medical, and dental appointments
  2. Funerals
  3. Required legal appearances
  4. Designated religious holidays
  5. Family emergencies
  6. Driver’s examinations
  7. Approved school district-sponsored activities
  8. Prior approved absences that have been deemed educationally beneficial for the student by the school principal or designee. (The student must obtain a prearranged absence form from the attendance office and have it completed and returned to the Attendance Office at least three days prior to their absence.)
  9. The school board may excuse a student who is temporarily not in proper physical or mental condition to attend school. An excuse under this condition shall be in writing and shall state the duration of time, not to exceed 30 days. Students with excused absences are entitled to make up work and are responsible for doing so.

Absences not excused within 72 hours from the date of absence will remain unexcused unless approved by an administrator.

When a student is absent, a parent or guardian must call the Attendance Office at (414) 766-5120 for each daily absence (written notes will not be accepted), no later than 2:00pm the day of the absence, with the following information:

  • Name of student
  • Reason for absence
  • Estimated length of absence

When requesting that a student be released during the school day, please call the Attendance Office at least one hour prior to the time you wish for them to be released.  It takes time to locate the student's classroom and get them to the door, so we need enough lead time to make them available.  Students will not be released to anyone that is not on their contact list, so please make sure everyone who may need to pick up a student is listed.

ATTENDANCE LETTERS

Attendance letters are sent weekly to notify parents of attendance concerns.  Did you receive a letter? Follow this link for detailed explanations of attendance letters.

HOMEWORK REQUESTS FOR ABSENCE STUDENTS

Homework requests should be called in to (414) 766-5100, prior to 9:00am, so material can be gathered for pick-up in the afternoon of the same day. Please do not call to request homework until the 2nd day of absence.

Homework requests for absent students must be made by 9:00am.  Teachers are notified of homework requests through the office and are expected to have work in the High School Office by the end of the same school day for pick up.  Contact a guidance counselor when special circumstances are involved.

Homework requests will be taken only for those students absent for two or more days. If a student is absent for less than two days, parents/guardians, or students, are strongly encouraged to email teachers directly if they would like the homework electronically.
