Elementary Library Program
The elementary library program is a resource used by teachers and students. It supports children's independent reading and research as well as their classroom activities. The elementary school library curriculum introduces children to the care and parts of books, reference sources, search skills, a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction (print and non-print), the Caldecott and Newbery Awards, the concepts of authorship and publication, and provides access to the Internet and a variety of databases and application software. The classes come to the library on a weekly basis throughout the year. In addition to scheduled classes, individuals drop in throughout the school day for research and pleasure reading needs. Our goal is to prepare students to become lifelong learners who are confident users of information and who love reading for pleasure.
