Blakewood Elementary ROCKS!
In 2011-2012 Blakewood Staff and students starting working hard to be ROCKStars. Blakewood ROCKS (Responsible, Organized, Caring, Kind, Safe) is the framework we use to help children to learn procedures for all the common areas of the school like lunch, recess, and hallways and how to be our best selves at school.
Part of our work for the upcoming school year will involve helping our school community learn more about “Filling Buckets”. Bucket filling is a way to talk about how when you do nice things for other people, you fill your bucket and the other person’s bucket. Be sure to ask your kids about Bucket Filling! We are so excited to have a program in place that will help highlight all the great things that kids do for each other! In fact, when you are visiting, if you see someone (adult or child) do something nice for another person (filling their bucket) please add a “rock” to the school bucket in the office. When the office bucket is full we’ll have an all school celebration. The bucket will get filled by emptying full classroom buckets into the school bucket.
If you would like to read the book as a family, there are copies in the school library as well as available for purchase in many bookstores and on the Kindle. Have You Filled a Bucket Today: A Guide to Daily Happiness for Kids by Carol McCloud is the book we will be using as a school.
We look forward to another great year full of learning, joy and success. If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know. We are happy to help in any way that we can!
