The School District of South Milwaukee provides gifted and talented programming for students identified under Wisconsin law, standard (t), ss118.35. Services are provided within an RtI (Response to Intervention) model, with the level of service matched to the level of need in the student. An example of level one service is differentiation of content, process and product in the regular classroom. Level two services include options such as cluster grouping, Challenge Burst activities (elementary), competitions and bees, accelerated classes (middle and high school), and invitations to participate in events that match a student’s gifts and talents (all levels). Level three options are very targeted, and may include highly specialized programming such as acceleration, mentoring or internships.
